The sun is out, it melts the snow that fell yesterday. Makes you wonder why it bothered.

The headline is from The Past is a Grotesque Animal by Of Montreal, my favourite band of 2008. Fitting too, given the sudden and dramatic snowfall in London on Sunday night.

But now, as ever, the sun is out and the once-perfect drifts have turned Hackney streets into rivers of gritty, black slush. All worth it though, given that this African boy has never experienced “proper” snow before, much to the amusement of my peers.

Don’t get me wrong, I still prefer sunny beaches and waves, but snow is fun too. Next challenge, skiing!
